COVER GIRL

“Glory, Glory, Hallelujah”

Gloria Velez loves the color white more than angels on Memorial Day. Draped in a full-length fur, cowboy hat and bikini—all white—the pioneering video honey looked heavenly in Jigga Man’s “Big Pimpin’” video in 1999. But lately, her connection with the angelic color has been more of the Pablo Escabor variety. In April 2004, authorities reportedly seized more than 118 pounds of cocaine from her tour bus, claiming her boyfriend/manager stashed the product in secret compartments and was part of a $50 million nationwide ring. “It was a bad situation and I’m hurt,” states Gloria, who goes under the rap moniker Glory. “They’re all in jail, but I can’t say anything about it because I wasn’t involved.”

Although gorgeous Gloria wasn’t arrested, she has been facing other allegations from some New York radio personalities. No matter. The MC-in-training, who will be strutting her thunderous legs and rap mojo all summer on the Fast and Furious Tour featuring DMX, Lil’ Flip and Chingy, simply pops her pimp bra. “They’ve got issues,” she says of her detractors. “When women are insecure and don’t have confidence in themselves, they like to diss other people.”

On how she takes pride in making rap videos better to watch:

“A lot of women who were video girls and make it don’t acknowledge it, and they should. It’s not bad to be a video girl—you did what you had to do to get where you’re at. If it’s a hot video, you’re on BET, MTV, VH1. I think it’s one of the best ways to get exposure.”

Describing the unexpected generosity of her faithful following:

“You get clothes, drinks, food sent over to your table. I tell people not to give my information out anymore because obsessed celebrities will send flowers and stuff like that. One time a baseball player—I don’t want to say names—came to my house. It was scary.”

Revealing her other favorite ‘role’ besides being a video honey:

“A dominatrix—I’m beating up a guy and whipping him and stuff. I thought that was wild and freaky. Some men seriously like real pain. I can tolerate it a little bit but not like some people.”
