BIZNESS – “A Cut Above”
Mr. Taper, a cool cat with a LeBron James-in-a-decade look, chuckles as his customer in the barber chair asks if media attention means haircuts are going up.
Truth is, stuff like this doesn’t go to Taper’s head. New challenges do, however. Take the Bronx native’s idea for getting fellow cut-creators to express themselves with the clippers and the pen. “It’s something I’ve always wanted to put down on paper,” says the Barbers Only Magazine visionary (born Craig Logan). “It’s something I’ve wanted to do for seven or eight years. I thought it was needed in the barbering community.”
Discussions pop off with regularity in barbershops on a number of topics-ball, baby mamas and the best MCs being the more popular ones. What Taper wants to do is convert such dialogues onto paper. The first issue of Barbers Only Magazine features pieces on everything from the top hip-hop albums ever to tips on barber fitness. If Barbershop can bring this lifestyle to the cinema, why not a magazine?
