    The Dreaded V Word

    It’s not what you think it is….

    There are so many great words that begin with V like, Vacation, Velvet, Vivacious, Venus, Victory, Volunteer, Voyage, Violets, Velocity, VOTE (the word of 2008), Vivrant (much love to Q-Tip),Viagra (Ha!) then there are some bad V words like, Victim, Venereal Disease, Venom, Voodoo, Violated, Vomit, I could get a dictionary and go on and on, but quite a few people would love to add Valentine to the bad list.

    So much emphasis is put on this day and trust in the great U.S.A. Valentine = $$$$$. From talking to quite a few people, they feel pressured to do something for their special someone. Let me tell you (I’m not giving advice, just suggesting, I don’t want anyone coming after me if they don’t get a gift), don’t feel burdened to give someone something for Valentine’s Day and don’t feel like it’s the end of the world if you don’t have anyone. It’s literally just another day. Like my good friend Mandy said to me, we focus so much on finding a “sweetheart”, that we forget about the OS (the original sweeties), who have been there since day one.  An OS can be your mother, your father, sister, brother, aunt, uncle, etc. There are always opportunities to show them love, everyday of the year. I know for me personally  (I love spontaneity), if someone sent me something or said some kind words on Feb 13 or Feb 15, I would be just as happy.

    So for my single people who may look up at the sky and say “Star light, star bright where the heck is Mr/Miss Right,” don’t fret. If you feel the need, on V-Day, go out and treat yourself, nothing like self-gratification (don’t runaway with that lol).

    For those of you who do have a special person in your lives, try doing something for them the day or even week after (again, I’m not saying don’t do anything on Valentine’s Day) and see the type of reaction you get. I’m pretty sure it will be even more appreciated.

    That being said let me end with this poem that I want to dedicate to my special someone.  Happy V-Day Everyone!

    Year Round Valentine
    By Joanna Fuch
    I love you all through February,
    Not just on Valentine’s Day;
    I cherish you when flowers of spring
    Appear in the midst of May.
    I adore you in the summer,
    When the air is filled with heat;
    Without you in my life each day,
    I wouldn’t be complete.
    I treasure you in fall,
    When leaves are turning gold;
    I loved you when you were younger;
    I’ll love you when you’re old.
    I prize you in the winter,
    When colder days are here;
    I love you, love you all the time,
    Every minute of the year.
    So I’ll give to you this Valentine,
    But I want to let you know,
    It’s not just today, but always,
    That I will love you so.

    Now Lizz, like I have said before, you know you are a rare woman(who has someone) where Vday isn’t a big thing. There are women out there who will flip if their significant other doesn’t bring them something on Vday(notice I didnt say Bday). I think people won’t be spending much since the economy is bad.

    Ms. Robbins, I am sure the big question your fans including the individual himself would want to know who that special someone that you dedicated your poem to is? It may make his day.

    Lizz, I love your blog because you summarized not only how Valentine’s Day has evolved into a commercial event but how people who are single should celebrate it. Like you state, for people who are in relationships, Valentines should be celebrated every day.

    Lizz, Hey young lady,
    I had the chance to read oour blog…I have made a deal with my girl. we will celebrate Valentines Day for her and MAN Day for me. I thought Valentines Daay was a bogus Holiday for women and found out after several conversations that men do not get to enjoy the day so she agreed to celebrate MAN day with me on August 14th where the men are the stars of the show…big up to my girl for looking outside the box…LOL

    [...] Things NOT to do on Valentine’s Day Here we are again, it’s the month of February and Valentine’s week (yes, I said week, because some people put a lot of emphasis on it). Last year, I wrote about the Dreaded V Word, how it can affect people’s emotions and, with this economy, their wallets. Since people are deciding about what to do for their significant other on Valentine’s Day, I’ve put together a list of things NOT to do for Valentine’s Day. Ladies and gentlemen, feel free to add on to the list! [...]
