    Tatted Up

Would you ink yourself for the one you love?

A tattoo is a permanent mark. Let me repeat—a permanent mark. Yes, you can have laser surgery (very painful) or you can change the design, but no matter what you do you will always have a reminder that you had a tattoo. Am I against tattoos? No, not at all. Do I have any? Nope, nor will I ever get any, just my own personal choice. I have a lot of friends and family that have tattoos (No, I’m not counting them LOL). After a certain couple got married recently and displayed their love for one another by getting each other’s names tattooed on their body (one was more prominent that the other’s), I thought to myself, ‘Would my love ever be so strong for someone to get their name permanently tattooed on my body?’

I can understand people getting the name of a family member or a close friend that’s passed tattooed on their body. Those are bonds that never break. No matter what happens those people will always be connected to you. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said about a relationship. I’ve seen too many people get the name of someone they “love” tattooed on their body and then kick themselves when it doesn’t work out. Yet, they are stuck with this person’s name on them. It’s especially bad for the people who get their tattoo in intimate places. When they start a new relationship the next person they are with has to see their ex’s name every time they go to that place. I personally feel there are other ways than getting a name inked into your skin to express love for an individual.

With that being said, let me ask you, would you get “tatted up” for the one you love?

“There is always some madness in love. But there is also always some reason in madness.”

    -Friedrich Nietzsche

I don’t think I would. You can have my extra kidney but a tat??? Nope! And if there are any ladies reading this column and posts, let me add a few other things to consider. 1) No names! Maybe I’m just speaking for myself, but when I’m “there” I don’t want to be reminded of ANYONE else, not ex’s, not their children, not their siblings, not their grandparents etc. 2) Limit your “art pieces” to 3 or less. My take is that getting tattoos are something akin to eating potato chips, you can’t have just one. and somewhere in between 3 and the next dozen you just look like you don’t have a clue what you wanted to do if you didn’t have a plan. After that you look like an old building in an industrial area that’s been tagged by graffiti artists. 3) Preferably private areas. There will be a time when an evening gown will be necessary or maybe you’ll be a bride or brides maid, and the tattoos will be at best limiting. Finally, I don’t think a tattoo ever enhances your looks. If you are sexy with a tattoo, you were sexy without one (eg. picture of Lizz at the top of the page). If you are, um, “aesthetically challenged” without one don’t count on a boost in popularity with one. Maybe its different for women when they look at men, and maybe other guys see it differently but that’s just the way I see it.

Not in a million lifetimes. My body is a sacred temple and I’m not putting a Tattoo on it period. I think when you get old and wrinkled and you still have a tattoo that you may have gotten when you were younger it looks pretty silly. I’d hate to see my Granny Tatted up. Like you said this is a permanent mark. People have to think long term when they make decisions that will impact the rest of their lives. Mike Tyson has one on his face, so does little Wayne. I can’t wait to see them as senior citizens with those tats. lol Good post Lizz Peace and Luv4self Carlos Muhammad

No dudes name on my body EVER!! I have tattoos all in places that can only be seen in private or in a swim suit. I love that tattoo’s allow you to express yourself artistically in a very unique kind of way but I also understand that the choice to do so should take a lot of thought as it is something that is difficult to change once you do it. That said, men come and go and even if I am head over heels in love, there is still no guarantee so to me it is completely ridiculous to put the name of someone your checking for or married to on your body…who needs that kind of painful reminder when the person is long gone. And I know the next dude doesnt want to have to stare at that mess when he shows up on the scene. I agree with you Lizz…tats honoring the deceased are a different story. My sister passed in 94 and I got a tat to honor her shortly after that. Its actually one of the ones I love the most because not a single day goes by where I am not reminded of how much she means to me and how much she will always be a part of my life. Another good post LS!

Hey Reliable Source, I said at the beginning of the blog that I don’t have any tattoos. Yes, it’s fake and obnoxious to get my point across and obviously photoshopped in. The guy did a GREAT job! BTW, thanks JMM for doing the art work!!!

    1. My son or daughter
    2. a good friend that has passed away.

I have a tattoo with a woman’s name on my chest. We are not together but what she did for me change my life. She gave me a reason to change and turn my life around. Another tat is when I was freed from prison, another in honor of my brother who’s dead. If not for her I would have never made it to Hollywood.

    CJ Coleman says:
Yes I am tatted (names, drawings & etc), I have no regrets about any. Tattooing is done to leave a permanent mark on someone for a lifetime, a person should be dedicated to the art of tattooing as this is not just a passing fancy, this is a lifetime commitment. Individuals that don’t have tattoos are either going to love them or hate them, but I would truly hope you would not judge the people that wear them. Tatts should be an expression of symbolism because this is a form of art. Personnally I would never get a girlfriend, boyfriend, husband, or wife name on me.

    05.22.08 at 6:55 pm

    Jeri says:
Yeah been there done that… do I regret it nope! I got it covered. I now have my current boyfriends name on my arm…Different strokes for different folks. I live life for the moment! But I do understand and appreciate your view. All my tats mean something. So I feel like if that person is significant to me, why not get their name tatted? But that’s my personal choice and opinion.

    05.25.08 at 2:29 pm

    ListenToLeon says:
I know a few folks who have gotten people’s names tattooed on them who wish they hadn’t later on. I even saw one of my friends get mad because another lady asked her questions about it. I was like “You really can’t get mad when people ask you questions about why you have ‘Jason’ printed an inch or two above your ass-crack”

    KARA says:
I may be crazy but i always told myself I would NEVER get a man’s name tatted on my body but I have soooooo much love and respect for this person that i got their personal artwork/signature tatted on my arm. I got a tat on my arm that says TREY’S # 1 but it is sooo unique because TREY SONGZ actually drew it himself!! It means alot to me because his music inspires me so do i regret it? NO!! am i going to when I get older? NO! He saw it and actually loves it and knowing he will always remember me as his fan that got a tat of his name is the best feeling!!

    06.2.08 at 7:05 pm

    Lizz says:
Hey Kara! That’s fan loyalty. That’s awesome that he actually created it. Truth be told back in 96, I may gotten a Tupac tattooed somewhere ;-)

I have no tattoes and have no intentions. if a man wants to tattoo my fine self anywhere on himself I’m alright with it.

    06.18.08 at 8:44 pm

    Em Dayrit says:
Unfortunately yes I do. You know that random question people ask, “What are your regrets?” Well… I always answer yes, my tattoos. I was 18 when I got my ex’s name on me. We both got each others name in the same place. I thought it was so hottt then. Until we were over and now I’m stuck with saving up money to get it lasered off. I personally have nothing against tattoos in general… but everything against tattoos of lovers’ names. Chances are – you will probably regret it sometime down the road.

    Dominique says:
    Hello lizz,
I love tatted up cause it is permitted and it doesn’t come off. Its other ways to show you love somebody. You can give each other gifts and more. I guess what im tryin to say is that love can be shown in many diffrent ways.

Only name I would ever get tatted up would be my sons because he will be with me always. No-one else is promised…

    LadyWithClass says:
Tatoos huh… well this has been an ongoing topic that i’ve thought about my whole life and considered all the pros and cons and told myself no not in a million but as of my last relationship i was in for two years i did get the tat we broke up several months ago and many people asked me if i regretted it and in all honesty my answer was no, i do not regret the tat. and in relevance to another comment made they changed my life dramatically and we are still friends

    Jay El says:
I’ve been married for 12 years and I dated my wife for 8 years before that (20 years….people in prison get less time) Anyway, there ain’t no way I’m gonna put her name on me. Maybe my kids but they’re mine. Love only goes but so far.

I was with my soon to be ex-wife 3 years married and 4 years not married. I have her name tattoo on my right forarm for everybody can see. I was thinking about covering but now I won’t. This tat simbolize my love for her threw our seven years together.

    eL says:
I would rather get a tattoo on my finger than a diamond wedding ring. Is that crazy? I don’t think so cause, man, I’d probably lose that shit in a quick minute. HOWEVER, I also don’t plan on getting married until self is intact and by that time… I’m sure I’d find someone worth it.

    10.20.08 at 12:00 pm

    Carlotta says:
Well you know me and you know I love my tatt’s! I’m 9 in and haven’t finished! Now this is something that steve and I had discussed and while we will NOT tattoo eachother’s names after we get married, we have discussed getting a matching one. It would be something that would mean something to us yet, individually as well. You know me though. I’ll cover up a tattoo in a heartbeat lol. Although in this case i’m pretty sure I won’t have to!
