The former Tony! Toni! Toné! frontman recreates the Motown sound on his latest album

Raphael Saadiq’s sound booth must double as a time machine. There’s no other logical explanation for how the veteran singer-instrumentalist has so convincingly re-created Motown. Giving a dusty, live-performance feel throughout, this feel-good affair sounds like Temptations 2.0 (see “100 Yard Dash”). Dynamite soul, indeed. – Matt Barone

When is the release date? He’s the type of artist that I make a point to buy and support, instead of download somewhere for free.
