    Yes, She Can!

Fall back, Sarah Palin—KING’s November ’08 cover girl Reagan Gomez is our all-American mom.

Hitting newsstands on October 14th, it’s KING’S Jock the Vote issue featuring Reagan Gomez and Special Guest Editor T.I.!

    Camden
    “THE REALITY OF HOPE”

Afternoon murders and sub-poverty-line living characterize the city of Camden, New Jersey. Could sloganeering presidential hopeful Barack Obama’s platform really save the hood?

    Reagan Gomez
    “VOTE FOR REAGAN!”

Fall back, Sarah Palin—cinnamon starlet Reagan Gomez is our all-American mom. She dishes takeout in T.I.’s “Whatever You Like” video, but proves here that her political savvy is flavorful. Talk about raising the bar.

    Political Scandals
    “MEN OF DISHONOR”

Think African-American politicians are scandal-proof? Meet five black elected officials who either screwed up or, uh, cracked under pressure.

    Political Roundtable
    “HOT-BUTTON ISSUES”

With a pivotal election approaching, KING mobilized rappers, a politician, an actor and an activist to debate key issues head-on. Pull up a chair.

    Darlene Ortiz
    “BODY COUNT”

Darlene Ortiz is eye candy for the ages. Recreating her show-stealing stance on Ice T’s famed Power cover, hip-hop’s original vixen brandishes her most lethal weaponry—guns and buns!

    Asia Nitollano
    “CHASE THE CAT”

Ditching the Pussycat Dolls to fill Ashanti’s pumps at The Inc., feisty feline Asia is partial to New York fellas with street knowledge. Smarten up.

    TAG
    “THE EMPEROR’S NEW CLOTHES”

Guest editor T.I. distinguishes himself as commander in chief of style.

    Fatimah says:
Beloved Reagan – I recently read a message you wrote stating some harsh words about the older generation as it relates to Obama. I can only hope that you speak for yourself and not for your entire generation; just as Jesse, and Bob and others spoke for themselves and not all of us. As you move forward into our future (I am of the generation you speak of – a child of the 60s) – that you remember to always honor and respect your elders just as we have learned and continue to learn to honor, respect and listen to you. Those same young men and women that you have seen murdered are our sons and daughters (your friends, your brothers and sisters and cousins, but our children; birthed from us; loved and suckled by us). So, are you implying that since we are older than you that we don’t feel the pain of our children’s death? That’s offensive, Reagan. And those underfunded schools you speak of are attended by our precious grandchildren. You speak as if we are removed from the pain and suffering of our people. We are also our people. As for the politicians who are not serving your purpose. Reagan, if you have any respect for yourself and love for your people, do it your damn self. Don’t ever wait for anyone to do what needs to be done. Begin the process and make it happen. It is up to each and every one of us to initiate and implement change in our communities. To refer back to my generation -since we are the targets of your attack – we didn’t care about what the politicians did or did not do for our communities. We did it ourselves. I offer that to you, my beloved. We did it because we could; and so can you – as many in your generation are proving based on their own works. We who know (regardless of age) know that talk is cheap; so we act; and those who want to act with us, do. Those that don’t, that is their choice. We know that the work will get done. Many, if not most of us who put the time in to change things then are still putting the time in to shift the paradigm today. What we did learn during that time, is to honor, love and support one another, regardless to where one may be in their social, intellectual, spiritual or emotional development. We do recognize your struggle because it is OUR struggle too. Just because we are older doesn’t mean that we’re not going through it with you. Some of those dying are older; the teachers who are being underpaid – are older; and then there those who are being fired right before they can get their pension – because they are older; and then they can’t get work – because they are older. These are the fathers and mothers you complain about. Yes, we recognize your struggle – but we recognize it is OUR struggle. I guess that vision comes with age. Just as the knowledge that we are not victims comes with age and wisdom. We have always been victorious through our struggles, regardless to what age we are – or what age we are in. We’re in this together . . . and only together can we make the change we want to see. As for the generational gap between young and old – perhaps you should look in the mirror to see where you are contributing to this space in time. I love you lil’ sis. Much success on your journey through womanhood. Fatimah

I just want to say thankyou to Fatimah for her in depth comment to Regan. It was spoken out of love and i believe at the same time, out of frustration. When I heard on the Radio that Regan Gomez was on the King cover, I was excited to see how she is doing because i grew up watching her and my kids watch the show in repeats now, but at the same time afraid, because King Mag is all about one thing… selling sexual viewing and ideas. This truly disgust me. This mag is really no different then a lot of those other mags on the stand that make their money on the glorifying the women’s body in sexual content, and attract most readers who want to feed you that crappy comment that “I’m only interested in the articals.” Anyway, I was prompted to send this because, Fatimah was just trying to let Ms. Gomez see the error in her immediate thought in regards to the previous generations outlook and understanding of today’s generation and situations. You know there is a saying that “You are what you eat”. That statment rings true accross the board. Meaning that, if you ingest (“eat”) negative reasoning, information and erroneous thinking, then “you” are going to become and act out all those behaviors. I guess this is why instead of being on the cover or in the issue of a upstanding mag like Essence, Ebony, or many others for Ms. Gomez to show your Beauty, accomplishments ( for one, motherhood) she chose this forum to come out after being somewhat out of sight for all this time. Come people lets uplift our game and mental well being and know that beauty is truly skin Deep. For fortunately my family taught me and my siblings to honor and respect the temple that has be given to you and that is your body as a whole. Physically, mentally, emotionally, spirtually and characterly. And for those who might respond negatively to what i speak, grow up.

    Capri says:
Responding to what “Real Says”: He is right on the money when he mention that, for her to be a mother, why is she taking such pics for the whole world to see. We are in an age of technology and I’m sure her kids will be able to see it now or even ten years from now on youtube, etc. And also it is “a shame” for the mag to mention politics in the same sentence regarding Regan being a mother and sexy on the cover of a mag half naked. Once again an example of how once we step forward into making history, we have find a way to take steps back.

What do y’all want her to do? Do you want her to hide her body simply b/c she’s a mother? If she is indeed married and her husband doesn’t have a problem with it, why should we? She’s in her 20′s, let the woman live. You people sound like the same ones that would say our women can’t be beautiful, sexy AND intelligent. As for those other mags, maybe she wasn’t asked to be in them. There’s nothing stopping her from doing them in the future.
