    8 in ’08: Sports

The eight most TiVo-worthy highlights of the past year.

    8. Usain Bolt’s 100m Gold Medal Win

Not to diss another Olympian who had an amazing games, but Usain Bolt’s performance in the 100 meters was among the more impressive showings in Olympic history. The Jamaican shattered the world record — while jogging at half speed. That’s like Kobe Bryant scoring 81 points in three quarters. In Sprinting, things like a good start, consistent flow and lowering the head into the tape are important, because there isn’t supposed to be much separation in the runners. Those small things, usually, are the difference between winning and losing.

Not with Bolt, he had a bad start, accelerated past everyone and slowed down the last 15 meters. Beating world class athletes like he did isn’t supposed to happen.

I wasn’t the biggest fan, but you have to admit Michael Phelps got the most coverage of the year for his swimming accomplishments.

phelps competed in eight events so thats understandable but usain’s performance was way better in a far more inclusive sport

Rewatching that Super Bowl clip reminds me of how awful a commentator Joe Buck is. I can’t believe that guy is on TV.
